DIY Controls To Help Manage Ticks in Your Yard

Tired of pulling ticks off yourself, your family and your pets, and worrying about whether or not these ticks carry lyme? Here are a few actions you can take to help prevent tick bites:

1. Remove tick habitats in your yard, such as leaf and stick debris piles.
2. Wear light colored clothing, especially socks and pants when spending time outside. Ticks will be easier to spot and you can brush them off before they bite.
3. Cover up when hiking or spending time in shaded, wooded or grassy areas. Tucking your socks into your pants isn’t a great fashion statement but can prevent ticks from crawling up your legs!
4. Put your clothes in the dryer for 20 minutes after spending time outdoors, the heat will kill any lingering ticks.
5. Stay on trails and in sunny areas. Ticks don’t like short, mowed grass or heat from the sun.
